- 1. The NRC staff met with Buffalo Pumps' (BP) management on August 15, 1988, to discuss the scope of this unannounced inspection.
BP management questioned the basis for this inspection in light of their statement that BP allowed their ASME nuclear stamp to lapse in 1982 and BP has not supplied new pumps, refurbished pumps, or spare parts to the nuclear industry since 1982. The NRC inspectors expressed concern that BP may have provided comrercial grade products to intermediary organizations which subsequently supplied those products to the nuclear industry. BP Management stated that they would know if any of the BP products were going to the nuclear industry based on procurement negotia-tions. BP management stated emphatically that BP has not supplied products to the nuclear industry directly or through intermedi-artes since 1982. BP management stated that document packages en products supplied prior to 1982, could not be readily retrieved because the documents were in archives. Since this inspection was not addressing a safety issue related to products produced prior to 1982, the NRL inspectors concluded the inspection at the end of the entrance meeting, i
