Using a three leg sling assembly, rated for no less than two tons safe kJ working load, attach to the (3) cask cover lifting holes on the cover stiffeners and lift cover off cask.
(Use extreme caution in handling and placing the cover due to possible contamination on its inner surface).
4.
Lift liner or drum pallets (one at a time) out of cask cavity.
5.
If using drums, replace pallets inside cavity.
6.
Inspect cover and cask to be free of contamination and debris.
7.
Inspect cover gasket for damage.
Replace when necessary.
8.
Place cover on cask using (2) guide pins in the cask bolt circle for alignment.
8a. Visually inspect the (16) 3/4-inch lid bolts for defects. Obtain replacement bolts as specified on CNSI Crawing No.1036-D-01 (current revision) for any bolts that show cracking or other visual signs of defects.
9.
Install the (16) 3/4-inch bolts and tighten to hand tight.
Torque to 1601 16 ft-lbs (120 12 ft-lbs if lubricated) using a star pattern.
Insert seal wire through two adjacent bolts.

Insert (3) 3/4"-10 bolts through cask cover lif ting holes and tighten nuts.
10.
Ensure that vehicle placarding is proper.
Revision 1, March 17, 1978 4.3 REMOVING ANDEUISTALLING CASK CN TRAILER If it is necessary to remove cask from or return cask to trailer, use the following procedures:
Removal 1.
Loosen and remove jaw turnbuckles.
2.
Remove chain shackles from cask tie-down lugs removing the steel rope.
3.
Mark cask position and orientation on trailer.
4.
Remove cask baseplate bolts, nuts and washers securing cask to trailer.

Verify cask lids are in place and lid bolts are torqued.

Secondary lid bolts torqued to 901 9 ft-lb (701 7 ft-lb if u
lubricated) in a star pattern.
Primary lid bolts torqued to 160 16 ft-lb (120 12 ft-lb if lubricated) in a star pattern.
6.
Using the three leg sling rated for no less than 21 ton safe working load, lift the cask by the three lif ting lugs provided.
Reinstallation 1.
Verify cask lids are in place and lid bolts are torqued.
Secondary lid bolts torqued to 90 9 ft-lb (701 7 ft-lb if lubricated) in a star pattern.
Primary lid bolts torqued to 160 16 ft-lb (1201 12 f t-lb if lubricated) in a star pattern.
2.
Using the three leg sling rated for no less than 21 ton safe working load, lift the cask by the three lifting lugs provided.
3.
Position cask on trailer using alignment marks made when removing cask from trailer.
4.
Lubricate and replace cask baseplate bolts, nuts and washers securing cask to trailer.
Tighten all bolts to 100 ft-1b, then torque each bolt to 250 25 ft-lb.
Torque bolts in one corner and then in opposite corner, repeat for remaining corners.

Replace cask tie-down cables and tighten.

5.0 MAINTENANCE PROGRAM The Chem-Nuclear Systems, Inc. maintenanca requirements for the CNS J
6-75 cask are articulated in this section.
These requirements reflect the specific operating conditions, limitations and regulatory i
requirements.
5.1 Painted Surfaces l
5.1.1 Painted surfaces shall be cleaned by steam or pressurized hot water using standard commercial equipment, chemical solutions, and procedures.
There are no special precautions required in this cleaning operation.
5.1.2 Chipped or scratched surfaces shall be retouched or re-painted using Chem-Nuclear Systems, Inc. approved paints.
5.1.3 Alignment stripes shall be re-painted when they are chipped, peeled off, faded, or not legible. Only localized surface preparation (sanding and cleaning) is required prior to re-painting of alignment stripe-5.2 Guskets and Test for Seal Integrity (Leak Test)
O 5.2.1 All Gaskets shall be inspected for proper installation prior to each cask loading.
5.2.2 All Gaskets shall be replaced once a year as a minimum regardless of condition.
5.2.3 Gaskets which cannot be sealed or are damaged must be replaced or repaired.
Damages may include cuts, nicks, chips, indentations, or any other defects apparent to l
the naked eye which would affect sealing functions.
4 5.2.4 Any painted surfaces in contact with the gaskots shall be maintained in good condition.

defect shall be properly retouched or repaired per paragraph 5.1.2.
i 5.2.5 Tesis for seal integrity as a minimum shall be performed after the annual replacement of all gaskets.
j The cask shall be pneumatically pressurized to 14 psig and while under pressure, seals are soap bubble checked for leakage acceptance criteria - no visible bubbl45.
Test Report shall be documented and included in the Quality Assurance Records of the cask.

Deformed or stripped threads.

Cracked or deformed hexs on bolt heads or nuts.
