OPERATOR WORKAROUND INSPECTION

Dear Mr. Kingsley:

In a telephone conversation on September 23,1998, Mr. Perry Barnes, Regulatory Assurance Supervisor, and Mr. Melvyn Leach, Chief, Operator Licensing Branch, discussed arrangements for the NRC to inspect the operations department, specifically in the area of operator 1

workarounds, at your LaSalle Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1 and 2. The inspection is planned for the week of November 2,1998, and will be conducted in accordance with Temporary Instruction '515/138, Evaluation of the Cumulative Effect of Operator Workarounds.
