I am pleased to learn of your appointment by Governor Janklow as the State Liaison Officer to I the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) from the State of South Dakota. I The NRC looks to the Governor-appointed State Liaison Officer to provide a communication channel between the State and the NRC; to be the key person in the State to keep the Governor informed on regulatory, radiological public health and safety or other matters of interest to the Governor; to keep other officials within the State informed on regulatory and public health and safety matters as appropriate to their interests and/or responsibilities; and to provide NRC with information on particular issues.

We are placing you on a special mailing list so that on a regular basis you will receive copies of NRC documents and reports to keep you informed of matters that impact on States. Also, on a periodic basis we will conduct both regional and national State Liaison Officers' meetings to discuss matters of mutual regulatory interest.
