The Honorable Adeline J. Geo-Karis Senator Illinois State Senate.

g p' q' g g 4 323 Capitol Building Springfield, Illinois 62706 Aar Senator Geo-Karis:

I am responding to your letter dated August 24,1998, addressed to Mr. David Meyer, Chief, i

Rules and Directives Branch, Office of Administration. Currently, there are two proceedings before Atomic Safety and Licensing Boards (ASLBs) of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission concerning the Zion Nuclear Power Station. Mr. Edwin Dienethat is a party in both, and Mr. Randy Robarge is a party in the proceeding commenced on September 1,1998. The proceedings are, respectively, hearing docket numbers 50-295/304-LA (commenced on June 11,1998) and 50 295/304-LA-2.

The ASLBs were established to consider the petitions to intervene filed by Mr. Dienethal, Mr. Robarge and the Committee for Safety at Plant Zion. Because of the ongoing adjudications, your letter and this response will be served on the parties to the proceeding.

I hope your concems with respect to the hearing process have been addressed.

Sincerely, Jo n yle 9809280056 980924 PDR ADOCK 05000295 O
