DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 CABLE TRAY HANGER DESIGN SDAR: CP-85-35 (FINAL REPORT)

REF: SDAR: CP-83-15, "CABLE TRAY CLAMPS" Gentlemen:

On October 21, 1986, we notified you by our letter logged TXX-6048 of a deficiency involving cable tray hanger design which we deemed reportable under thn provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). Our latest report on this issue, logged TXX-88410, was submitted April 27, 1988. This report is submitted to update the corrective action completion schedule for this issue.

As indicated in TXX-6048, our corrective actions for this issue include a design validatior. program (which include the issue regarding inadequate bolting material and fastener tension for cable tray clamps - SDAR: CP-83-15) for cable tray hangers based on as-built conditions and a testing program to provide additional confirmation of the design validation methods.

The testing program has been completed.

With respect to the design validation program for Unit 1 and Common Area, -

as-dasigned drawings have been developed for each cable tray hanger. Field walkdowns have been performed (per FVM-CS-001/FVM-CS-003) to establish and indicate on the drawings, the hanger as-built conditions. Final as-built drawings were produced from information gathered from the walkdown effort.

Quality Control Verifications of the as-built drawings were performed in accordance with Ql-QP-11.10-9, which has been revised to N01-3.09-M-001, "Modification, Rework and As-Built Inspection / Verification of Cable Tray Hangers in Unit 1" and QI-QP-11.10-2A, "Inspection of Unit 2 Cable Tray Supports for Spread Room Attachments." Span layout sketches were developed, based on field walkdown data.

The total number of hangers identified as requiring modification as a result of the design validation is eight hundred seventy-four (874) out of a total of seven thousand five hundred sixty six (7566) hangers in Unit I and Common.

Design Change Authorizations (DCAs) have been issued for these modifications.
