SAFETY EVALUATION OF GENERAL ELECTRIC BOILING WATER REACTOR (BWR) EXTENDED POWER UPRATE GENERIC ANALYSES (TAC M95087)
Dear Mr. Quirk:
Enclosed is the NRC staff safety evaluation regarding the generic bounding analyses and equipment evaluations contained in GE Licensing Topical Report NEDC-32523P, " Generic Evaluations of General Electric Boiling Water Reactor Extended Power Uprate," including Supplement 1, Volumes I and 11. The staff has determined that the subject licensing topical report, in conjunction with the generic guidelines provided in NEDC-32424P, " Generic Guidelines for General Electric Boiling Water Reactor Power Uprate" and a plant-specific licensing evaluation, would provide the information necessary for staff review of individual applications for extended power uprate.
As you are aware, the staff's final safety evaluation on the lead plant application for Northern States Power Company's, Monticello plant is near completion. Additionally, the staff has issued a draft safety evaluation on Southern Company's Hatch plant extended power uprate request for the NRC's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards review.
Please let us know if you have any questions concerning the enclosed safety evaluation or the staff's progress with other aspects of the BWR extended power uprate program.
