Dear Sir:

i lhe purpose of this letter is to fulfill the requirements set forth in IE Bulletin No. 79-19 (p. 3), namely, submission of a report concerning the transfer, packaging, and transport of low-level radioactive waste.

The University of Northern Iowa made no low-level radioactive waste shipments during the year 1978 and the first six months of 1979.

Further-more, no liquid low-level radioactive waste was generated in that period.

Our use of radioisotopes is largely limited to a laboratory course in l

radiochemical techniques. Short-lived isotopes are used, the waste being allowed to decay to background in a safe holding facility.

It has been three years since this course was offered.

We, therefore, anticipate no accumulation of low-level solid waste and no shipments of same.

It is our understanding, in accord with the statement near the bottom of page 3 of IE Bulletin No. 79-19, that no further action on our part is required.

Sincerely yours, gdM!%
