Radiographic Exposure Device DESCRIPTION:
The device consists of a depleted urardum shield and polyurethane 1
filler enclosed in a 1/8" (3.18 mm) circular. steel housing constructed by rolling a right circular cylinder, and arc-welding two circular end pieces.
A zircaloy "S"
tube extends through the device's shielding mass.
At one end is a lock-box through which the source pigtail cable and male half; of the quick disconnect-connect connector protrude.
The lock box is the improved version that is used in the Gamma Century A unit.
The drive cable conduit (up to 25 ' [7.62 m] ) is threaded into the lock box after removing a protective screw cap.
The source conduit. (up to 24'
[7.32 m] ) is attached to a fitting at the opposite end of the "S"
tube by a spring loaded quick disconnecc-connect arrangement after removing a protective screw cap.
The depleted uranium shield (approximately 18 pounds (8 kg]) is secured in position by the two cast steel end pieces and is cushioned on its circumference within the device by polyurethane.
A leather carrying handle is attached to the upper aluminum end piece.
A Teleflex drive cable arrangement with a hand crank is provided for moving the source between the exposed and shielded positions from a remote location.
The source guide tube may be of transparent PVC or the more common opaque neoprene coated steel conduit.
The outside dimensions of the device are 5-1/2" (13.97 cm) diameter by 7-3/8" (18.73 cm) in height.

The device bears a label specifying the use of 18 pounds of depleted uranium shielding and the content of the device including the isotope, the activity, the date of measurement, and the source serial number.
An additional label with the radiation symbol in color states, " DANGER - DO NOT HANDLE - RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL."

LIMITATIONS AND/OR OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:
The manufacturer furnishes an operating and maintenance manual

which includes step-by-step instructions for using the exposure f
device and exchanging sources using the Gamma Industries Model C-4 source changer.
The operating instructions in the manual will not, in themselves, meet the requirements of 10 CFR 34 for operating and emergency procedures.
SAFETY ANALYSTS
SUMMARY
The Model 35 SA device is no longer manufactured or distributed by Gamma Industries, Inc. and Gamma Industries, Inc. is no longer in business.
Therefore, the registration certificate is being converted to.an inactive registration certificate.
