ALLEGED OVEREXPOSURE An OSHA representative in Oklahoma City informed Region IV (Arlington) on June 20, 1977, that the U. S. Department of Labor had received a written allegation of overexposure to radiation from a Mustang Services Company employee.

The employee alleged he received the over-exposure while using a three-curie Cesium 137 source contained in a pipe wall thickness measurement device. The employee further stated he began to have a health problem in April 1977 and stated he was hospitalized on June 1, 1977,following verification of radiation sickness symptoms by his. physician. The OSHA representative reports that a co-worker of the alleger is also experiencing similar health problems.

The alleged overexposure apparently occured at work sites in and around Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, which were performed under NRC reciprocity.

A Region IV (Arlington) inspector vas dispatched to Oklahoma City

===i on June 21, 1977, to evaluate the licensee's safety program and to interview the employees. An NRC medical consultant has been alerted.

No press release is planned by NRC or OSHA. The State of Oklahoma has been informed.
