Vogtle Electric Generating Plant - Unit 2 USNRC Inspection Report 50-425/88-10 Georgia Power Company wishes to submit the following information concerning the violation identified in the referenced inspection report.

Violation 50-425/88-10-01, "Failure to Issue Field Change Requests (FCR) for Addition of Fire Protection Piping to Cable Tray Supports" Georgia Power Company (GPC) acknowledges the violation as identified in the USNRC report.

The violation occurred as a result of the responsible Fire Protection personnel's failure to follow 6pplicable installation details requiring them to obtain prior Engineering approval to attach Fire Protection System supports to cable tray supports.

To determine the extent of the violation, a walkdown of Fire Protection Systems installed adjacent to cable tray supports was conducted by Project Engineering personnel.

A total of eighty-two (02) supports were found attached to tray supports.

Of these, twenty-five (25) supports were installed to tray supports without prior Engineering approval.

These twenty-five (25) supports were evaluated by Engineering with seven (7) supports requiring modification or removal.

To prevent further recurrence, training sessions were held instructing craft and Field Engineering personnel that Project Engineering approval is required prior to any fabrication or installation, including attaching Fire Protection supports to cable tray supports.

Fire Protection supports are currently being installed in accordance with appropriate Engineering approval.

Full compliance was achieved as of April 28, 1988.
