f, PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE-PNO-77 118 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.
Facility: Northeast Nuclear Energy Company Millstone Point Unit 2 Waterford, Connecticut (DN50-336)
Sybject:
UNPLANNED FACILITY SHUTDOWN The unit was shutdown from 96 percent power at 7:02.a.m., June 29, 1977, due to indications of gas in the main output transformer's oil cooling system. The shutdown will last for a minimum of four days to investigate the cause of the problem. Adverse findings could lead to an extended shutdown exceeding one month. There are no nuclear safety issues involved in this shutdown.
I Media interest is expected because of close attention given to operating i
problems at Millstone Point facilities. The State of Connecticut has been informed. A press release is being considered by the licensee.
NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the Unit Superintendent at 2:15 p.m., June 29, 1977.
