SCHEDULE FOR NRC STAFF'S REVIEW OF DOE TOPICAL REPORT ON TRITIUM PRODUCTION CORE (TAC NO. MA0118)

Dear Mr. Sohinki:

The NRC staff is reviewing your topical report entitled " Tritium Production Core (TPC) Topical l

Report" submitted by letter dated July 30,1998 under the provisions of the joint memorandum of understanding between the NRC and DOE and will prepare a safety evaluation report documenting its review.

At a public meeting between the NRC staff and DOE on August 18,1998, your staff stated that it needed the staff's SER to be available to licensees participating in the commercial light-water program by Spring of 1999. In order to support your program, the staff has established the following milestones for its review of your topical report:

07/30/98 (C) DOE submits its TPC topical report for NRC review 08/11/98 (C) Staff notices receipt of DOE topical report in Federal Register 09/30/98 (T) Staff issues requests for additional information (RAls) 12/15/98 (T) DOE submits response to RAls 03/15/99 (T) Staff completes SER and transmits it to the Commission 03/31/99 (T) Staff issues SER as a NUREG (assumes Commission negative consent)
