N SECTION I PART I - CHANCES A.
During the year, no fuel additions were required.
B.
The secondary portion of the heat exchanger was cleaned during the reporting period.
This service was1 performed during of f hours with no resultant loss of normal operation.
C.
The biennial inspection of fuel elements was performed during the reporting period with no-anomalies poted other than one element was bowed a normal occurrence.
After removal and reloauing of all elements, new control rod calibrations were performed using a new rod drop technique obtained from General Atomics With this technique, a gain of approximately S0.10 was noted in the loss to power measurement.
PART II - EXPERIMENTS No new experimeits were performed during-the year.
The experiments performed in this reporting period were as follows:
EXPERIMENT NUMBER 114 Neutron radiography perfo med in the radiography facilities.
116 Irradiation of hydrocarbon activation analysis samples.
120 Irradiation of plastic slides impregnated with microscopic quantities of fissionable materials for the McClellan Air Force Base and General Electric Company.

Subject:
Annual Summary of Changes, Tests and Experiments at Aerotest Radiography and Research Reactor (ARRR),
Docket No. 50-228, for period ending 6/30/88
Dear Mr. Scarano:
T' <
enclosed report summat;ior the ARRR operations from July 1,
1987 through June 30, 1988.
This submittal complies with the requirements set forth in 10 CFR, part 50.59, "Authorization of Changes, Tests and Experiments."
Summary forms of monthly opera-tions and unscheduled power reductions are included.
As shown in the summary table of unscheduled shutdowns, all of the events were occasioned by high water temperatu e (pool),
electric power failure and one occurrence of a spurious fast period.
We elected to again service the heat exchanger and cooling tower. Since this service, we have experienced no further scrams from water temperature.
1 The new uninterruptible power supply (UPS) installed last reporting period has functioned well during momentary power outages.
No unusual problems have been noted during the year and the reactor has been operating in a safe and reliable manner.

Very truly yours, AER0 TEST OPER'TIONS INC.
