Special Inspection No. 88-74 On March 22, 1988, Mr. John Miller and Ms. Christina Schulingkamp of this office conducted a safety inspection at the above address of activities permitted by the general license as authorized by 10 CFR 31.5.
Inspection was. limited to a review of your possession and use of static eliminators manufactured by the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M) and to perform an independent survey to verify and validate the effectiveness of your surveys and decontamina-tion efforts.
The findings of the inspection were discussed with you at the conclusion of the inspection.
Selective areas of your facility were surveyed with a Ludlum Model 61 air proportional detector.
Six contaminated areas were identified with counts ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 disintegrations per minute.
Four of the six areas were decontaminated immediately.
You were requested by the inspectors to establish a restricted area in the portion of your facility where the Po-210 contamination was identified.
Based on the discussion between you and Mr. John Miller of my staff at the conclusion of the inspection, we understand that you will arrange for the affected area to be resurveyed and decontaminated as necessary and the contaminated area of your facility will be maintained as a restricted area until such surveys and decontamination efforts are completed.
Please submit to this effice a record of the final survey results.
