SUBJECT:
COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 ilIGH ENERGY LINE BREAK ANALYSIS SDAR: CP-87-133 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On January 18, 1988, we notified you by our letter, logged TXX-88118, of a reportable deficiency in which adverse interactions associated with high energy longitudinal pipe breaks were not completely identified. This letter provides the corrective action taken on the pipe break related to SDAR CP-85-46 which was incorporated into SDAR CP-87-133.
Since we submitted TXX-88118 we have completed our evaluation of the finite element analysis performed by Westinghouse.
Based upon Westinghouse's refined analysis, longitudinal break number 605 has been eliminated from the pipe rupture analysis of stress problem 1-025.
As a result, the condition described in SDAR CP-85-46 will require no'further corrective actions.
No physical plant modifications will be required.
The current program methodology and implementation are addressed on a broader scope by SDAR CP-87-133.
Documentation to support our conclusion is available onsite for your inspector's review.
i Very truly yours, 0
