Dear Mr. Stello:

I t

In accordance with the Federal Ehergency thnagement Agency (FDM) rule 44 CFR 350, the State of Illinois autnitted on January 9,1987, its State and i

associated local plans for radiological mergencies related to the Braidwood

[

!belear Power Station to the Begional Director of FDM Begion V for FENA review and approval.

A favorable interim finding for the State and local i

planning effort was issued by FDIA on April 21, 1986. 7he Regional Director has evaluated the State's January 9,1987 sutnission and, in accordance with section 350.11 of the rule, tranmitted his final evaluation to me on August 21, 1987.

Contained in the Region V submittal was m evaluation i

of the joint exercises conducted on Ibymber 6,1985, and thrch 18, 1987; i

and a report on the public neeting held on fiay 20, 1987, which explained i

the site-specific aspects of the State and local plans.

Based on an overall evaluation, I find and determine that the State and

[

local plans and preparedness for the Braidwood thelear Power Station are i

t adequate to protect the health and safety of the public in that there is reasonable assu~ance that the appropriate protective neasures can be I

taken offsite in the event of a radiological mergency. The public alert and notification systen was approved by FDIA on August 5,1987.
