THROUGHW ALL CRACK, RECIRCULATION LOOP DRAIN LINE Ddring a drywell inspection on June 14, with the reactor pressure a.t 500 psig, a through-wall crack was visually observed on a two-inch recirculation loop drain line. The drain line is located on the suction side of the A recirculation pump. The crack was located in the heat affected zone of the pipe at a socket weld to a 90 elbow. Prior to shutdown, unidentified drywell leakage was below that allowed by the Technical Specifications.
Repairs are in progress. The licensee plans to conduct metallographic analysis'of the crack.
Media interest' is expected because of a high sensitivity to events at this plant. The State of Connecticut is informed. A press release is not ' planned.
NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by phone from the licensee at 2:00 PM, 6/15.
