Letter, VYNPC to USNRC, FVY 85-92, dated 10/04/85 Dear Sir

Subject:

Supplemental Information Pertaining to Inspection No. 50-271/85-19 In response to your letter of December 31, 1985 (Reference (b)], we have reviewed the schedule identified in our October 4, 1985 letter (Reference (c)]

regarding the implementation of certain hardware modifications. We have concluded that we are unable to expedite the schedule for the following reasons:

1)

The engineering evaluation to determine the exact scope of the necessary hardware modification is in progress and is presently being done on an expedited schedule.

2)

We cannot finalize the schedule for completing the hardware modifica-tion until the engineering evaluation is completed.

In addition, a detailed. design change package has to be developed and approved prior to the actual modification taking place.

As stated in our October 4 letter, we believe the current schedule is justified since interim measures have been implemented which assure CAS-SAS monitoring effectiveness until the permanent modification is made.

In addition, we will submit a temporary change to our Physical Security Plan within ten (10) days which formally incorporates the interim compensatory measures described in our October 4 letter.
