l RADIATION DETECTED NEAR THE PREMISES OF A FORMER AEC CONTRACTOR / LICENSEE IN CANONSBURG, PA PNO-76-188 dated November 10, 1976, reported that radiation levels of approximately 0.5 mr/hr with a maximum of 18 mr/hr were detected near the perimeter of an industrial park at Canonsburg, PA. PNO-77-08 reported that ERDA had selected the site for inclusion in its excessed sites survey program.

An ERDA team from ORNL started the survey on March 21, 1977. Preliminary results indicate that radon levels are in excess of the Surgeon General's recommendations for allowable radon levels in office spaces.

e i On March 28, 1977, a local Pittsburgh public broadcasting station started

! filming a TV documentary at the Canonsburg site. The purpose of this notification is to alert the Commission of potential publicity.
