a PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION March 23, 1977 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-77-44 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

SECOND FALSE CRITICALITY ALARM - 9:50 a.m., MARCH 23, 1977 A false criticality alarm occurred this morning at this site because of e momentary loss of electric power. Following plant evacuation and initia-tion of the site emergency plans and procedures, the alarm was determined to be false and the plant returned to normal operations at 11:00 a.m.
Although this was a false alarm, the state police responded automatically.
Media interest may occur because of plant evacuation and agency notifica-tion. The State of Rhode Island was automatically informed by the licensee and by Region I.
Region I also notified the State of Connecticut.
A press release is not planned.
1 Region I inspectors are conducting a security inspection at the site.
