i As committed to in Chairman Jackson's letter to you, dated June 16,1998, I am providing you i

with a copy of the Federal Register notice (63 FR 43516) ennouncing the proposed revisions to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) regulations goveming the medical uses of byproduct material (10 CFR Part 35, " Medical Use of Byproduct Material").

NRC has scheduled three public meetings, to allow stakeholders and other interested parties to discuss the proposed changes to NRC's medical use regulations. The first was held on August 19-20,1998, in San Francisco, Califomia; others are scheduled for September 16-17, 1998, in Kansas City, Missouri, and October 21-22,1998, in Rockville, Maryland.

l-The Commission will carefully consider comments received from the public, in preparing the final rule.
