February 4, 1986 D:cket No. 99901018/85-01 Nuclear Energy Services ATTN: Mr. William J. Manion President 1001 Shelter Rock Road Danbury, Connecticut 06810 Gentlemen:

Thank you for your letter dated December 10, 1985, concerning the Nuclear Energy Services (NES) evaluation of the status of the corrective action items committed to by NES Manufacturing. These items are discussed in the August 25, 1985 letter to the NRC in response to the NRC inspection findings at the Greensboro, North Carolina facility ir June 1985 and the subsequent report 99901018/85-01 dated July 26, 1985.

NES Manufacturing's letter signed by Mr. Frank A. Sugar (undated, and received by the NRC on December 10,1985) contained additional information requested by the NRC in an October 25, 1985 letter and during a November 12, 1985 meeting with the NES Division Quality Assurance Manager, members of the Bechtel Corporation, and members of the NRC staff regarding NRC inspection findings discussed in report number 99901018/85-01, dated July 26, 1985. The NRC requested additional information concerning NES Manufacturing's response to the Notice of Violation and Nonconformance Items No. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 14, 15, and 17.

The response to Nonconformance Item No. I was not complete in that all the documentation requested concerning the neutron poison shrouds and filter bundles was not provided, however, no additional information is requested concerning the Items of Noncompliance or the Items of Nonconformance cited in inspection report number 99901018/85-01. Corrective actions and commitments made in response to the NRC inspections at NES Manufacturing may be reviewed during future inspections.
