Dear Mr. Thorne:
Enclosed please find a request from Edlow International Co. to export 60,000 curies of tritium to Japan. The material will be used for research and development of tritium processing and safe handling technology at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute Department of Thermonuclear Fusion Research Tritium Process Laboratory.
Before taking action on this request, we would appreciate your views, in accordance with established procedures and from the overall perspective of the Executive Branch, as to whether the proposed export meets the applicable criteria in the Atomic Energy Act of 1954.

I attach for your kind consideration two (2) applications to export tritium to Japan.
The first is for 60,000 curies as tritium gas for use in JAERI's Tritium Process Laboratory (see 'U.S.
tmC license no. XB001252).
The second application is for three (3) tritiated targets each containing 650 curies of tritium for use with JAERI's FNS Deuteron Accelerator.
