Docket No. 50-483 Keeper af the National Register of Historic Places National Park Service U. S. Department of Interior P. O. Box 37127 Washington, D.C. 20013-7127 Gentlemen:

SUBJECT:

UNION ELECTRIC COMPANY'S CALLAWAY PLANT - CULTURAL RESOURCES REQUIREMENTS The Nuclear Regulatory Consnission (NRC) is attempting to complete the review required by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and the provisions of 36 CFR 800 (51 FR 31115, September 2,1986), the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation regulations for implementing the NHPA. This effort involves closing out issues pertaining to cultural resources requirements for the Union Electric Company's (the licensee) Callaway Plant. The Callaway Plant is located in Callaway County, Missouri.

The NRC does not maintain a staff that is qualified to make site eligibility determinations. Thus, based on the provisions of Items (f) and (h) of Section 60.3 of 36 CFR Part 60, "National Register of Historic Places," we request that you detennine whether any of the sites are eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. We are, therefore, enclosing for your use a i chronology and documentation pertinent to the issues for your review and '

reconunendations. Note that the enclosed documents reflect some differences of opinions between the licensee, the Missouri Department of Resources (State Historic Preservation Officer), and the Colorado Office of the National Park Service (NPS) relating to the adequacy of information for making site eligi-bility determinations for inclusion of certain sites in the National Register of Historic Places.

By copy of this letter and the enclosures hereto, we are also requesting that the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation provide us their coninents and recocinendations on these issues. The documentation and information pertinent to these issues are enclosed, I
