CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER This is to confirm the telephone conversation between Mr, Feenan Jennings, Texas A&M University (TAMU) and Mr. Blaine Murray, NRC, Region IV, on April 15, 1988. Based on the above conversation, it is my understanding that TAMU is taking the following actions in regard to the concerns identifisd by the NRC inspector during an April 11-12, 1988 inspection.

1. Preplanning The Nuclear Science Center (NSC) will establisn the necessary procedures to insure that proper preplanning is conducted before experiments / work activities begin. These procedures will ensure that health physics personnel have a clear understanding of the scope of work to be performed and that the experimenters / workers are instructed as to proper radiological controin
2. Oversight NSC health physics personnel will perform periodic reviews of ongo,ng work activities to ensure that experimenters / workers are following proper radiological controls and to verify that the original scope of work activities and radiological conditions have not changed.

Issuance of this confirmatory action letter does not preclude the issuance of an order formalizing the above commitments. If your understanding differs from that set forth, please call rne immediately.
