Dear Dr. Graham:
I have the honor of inviting you to be the keynote speaker at the Nuclear Power Plant Aging Symposium on August 31, 1988, at the Naval Officers Club, Bethesda, Maryland.
A buffet dinner-reception is planned to commence at 7:00 p.m.
The Symposium is jointly sponsored by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the American Nuclear Society (ANS), the American Society of Civil Engineers ( ASCE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Our theme is "Understanding Aging -
A Key to Ensuring Safety:
Managing Aging - A Necessity to Ensuring Safety."
The symposium will provide an opportunity for engineers and scientists around the world to exchange technical information on plant aging and discuss recommendations for future international cooperative efforts.
Foreign officials planning to attend include Dr. Hideo Uchida, Chairman, Japanese Nuclear Safety Commission; Mr. M. Laverie, Director, Central Service for the Safety of Nuclear Installations, France; and Prof. Dr. L. V. Konstantinov, Deputy Director General, International Atomic Energy Agency.
I regret that I will be out of the country during the Symposium.
However, Commissioner Kenneth Rogers, who will be Acting Chairman in my absence, will attend and will serve as your host.
