This letter is to acknowledge receipt of the NRC Safety Evaluation Report on the deferred WNP-1 Project Conformance to Regulatory Guide 1.97 (Reference 2).
Because of the long term deferred status of WNP-1 and the limited engineering resources applied to the projecc since early 1986, the Regulatory Guide 1.97 conformance design has not advanced. As a result, we are unable, at this time, to commit to installation of category 2 instrumentation to monitor the pressurizer heater status, emergency ventilation damper position, condenser air removal system exhaust and gland steam exhaust.
The WNP-1 Regulatory Guide 1.97 conformance design and development of applicable commitments has been deferred until after construction restart.
When construction resumes we will develop a schedule for the complete Regulatory Guide 1.97 conformance effort.
