SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET H0S. 50-445 AHD 50-446 ANCHOR BOLTS SUPPLIED BY HILTI SDAR: CP-86-51 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On February 4,1988, we notified you by our letter logged TXX-88195 of a deficiency involving anchor bolts supplied by Hilti which we deemed reportable pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e).

This is a supplemental report submitted to provide the status of corrective actions completed to date.

In TXX-88195, we indicated our corrective actions for this issue would consist of evaluating Hilti bolt installations for adequacy by tensile testing the bolts in CPSES concrete to determine the ultimate capacity and/or by comparing the revised allowable loads with those used for design. Based on the results of the tensile testing, design allowables would be revised accordingly and included in the applicable design documents.

Any bolts found to be unacceptable during this comparison would be reworked in accordance with applicable project procedures. We further indicated that corrective actions for Unit I would be completed by April 15, 1988, and Unit 2 corrective actions would be completed prior to Unit 2 fuel loading.

Tensile testing of 1/2 inch diameter Hilti bolts in CPSE5 concrete has been completed. We are currently evaluating the tesi. results and based upon the results of this evaluation, design allowables will be rw ised accordingly and included in the applicable design documents.

Any bolts found to be unacceptable will be reworked in accordance with applicable project procedures.

Corrective actions for Unit 1 are currently scheduled for completion by December 15, 1988.

Unit 2 corrective actions will be completed as previously scheduled.

Very truly yours, 8804210257 880415 N7 PDR ADOCK 05000445 A
