July 27, 1988 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE PN0-0SP-88-013 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events'of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by OSP staff on this date.

SUBJECT:
CONSTRUCTION ACCIDENT WITH FATALITY While removing HVAC ductwork in the Train "A" Battery (room, a Fluor-Daniel employee was electrocuted at approximately 9:30 a.m.
CST), on July 27, 1988.
l The ductwork fell cutting a 120-volt lighting cable, the ductwork pinned the employee in the cable tray and grounded the cable against the tray.
The applicant activated their rescue i.eam, who removed the injured employee af ter electrical power to the tray was r,0 cured.
Efforts to remove the employee were hampered by difficulty in securing power to cables in the cable tray.
The employee was pronounced dead upon arrival at the local offsite medical facility.
The applicant is conducting an investigation and has informed OSHA.
Local media interest has occurred. The licensee is responding to media inquiries and plans to issue a news release. The NRC does not plan to issue a news release.
The state of Texas will be informed.
