MANAGEMENT DIRECTIVE 8.1. ABNORMAL OCCURRENCE (AO) REPORTING l PROCEDURE j

Your memorandum to S. J. Collins, et al., dated July 16, 1997, requested NRR concurrence in a draft of Management Directive (MD) 8.1. " Abnormal Occurrence Reporting Procedure." We have reviewed the draft and concur.

We note that two of the three NRR comments that were transmitted to AEOD on May 29, 1997 are addressed in the current draft. We still recommend that AE0D provide guidance on the continued use of the AE00 " Handbook on Application of the Abnormal Occurrence Criteria and Examples" and prior abnormal occurrences for future A0 determinations. In the meantime we have revised our implementing draft Office Letter to state that MD 8.1 should be used as a basis for the identification of any future Potential Abnormal Occurrences. We plan to issue this Office Letter subsequent to the issuance of MD 8.1. A copy of the draft has been sent to your coordinator for information and comment.
