Attendees NAC NAC T. C. Thompson R. H. Odegaarden A. H. Wells H. Lee G. M. Jackson Introduction A meeting was held at the request of Nuclear Assurance Corporation (NAC) at Silver Spring, Maryland, on November 20, 1987, concerning the design of a new legal weight truck cask.

A description of the cask is given in memorandum to the files dated September 4, 1987 (R. H. Odegaarden).

1 NAC is planning 1/4 scale drop tests of the proposed cask. This includes a 30' flat end drop, side drop, and an oblique corner drop.
The oblique corner drop angle would be determined by analysis W30*). A 40" pin drop would be i
conducted at the side mid-plane and at the port cover.
l Stress / strain curves would be developed for about five angles plus for the end I
and side drops. The test will supplement the cask analyses by showing gross effects. Accelerometers will be used to document dynamic load factors.
The ANYSIS computer program will be used to analyze the drop tests. The one-foot drop test stresses will be obtained by ratio of the "g" loads. The ANYSIS program will be used to match stresses between the model and the full scale package. NRC staff is interested in the maximum stresses.
