Reference is made to'our letter of February 16, 1983, which requested that ~ the HNDC HN-100 Series 2 casks be included in the renewal of Certificate of Compliance No. 9079 and the consolidated application submitted by Nuclear Packaging, Inc., on November 24, 1983. Our letter submitted information -requested by your letter of January 7, 1983, as.it relates to the HN-100 Series 2 casks. f. Attachment A contains additional information requested by your staff. (Telecon Charles Williams to C. Mallory of April 4, 1983) and eight copies of _ the revised drawings which incorporate this information. Attachment B is attached for your information and is the latest revision of the Cask Handling Procedure which has been revised to ' cover the use of the alignment marks currently on the cask. r D b ATTACHMENT A Radioactive Materials Package HNDC Model HN-100 Series 2 Certificate of Compliance No. 9079 Responses to Nuclear Regulatory Commission Verbal Comments of April 4, 1983 A. DRAWINGS The current drawings for the HNDC HN-100 Series 2 radioactive waste shipping cask are Hittman Nuclear & Development Corporation Drawing Nos.: C001-5-9122, Rev. 3 C001-5-9123, Rev. 3 C001-5-9124, Rev. 2 The following changes have been made in the drawings previously submitted. 1. Drawing Number C001-5-9122, Rev. 3 a. The List of bbterials has been revised as follows: o The materials for Item 19 are specified to be ASTM A320 Gr. L-7 or SAE Gr. 5. Section B contains the analysis to show the adequacy of SAE Gr. 5 material as a substitute for ASTM A320 Gr. L-7. Item 14 will be ASTM A194 Gr. 4 or Gr. 7 and "or equal" o has been removed. The "or equal" materials option, has been removed from o Item 6, Ratchet Binder, i o The "or equal" materials option has been removed from Item i 18, 3/4"-10 UNC stud. b. The weld designations have been added for the attachment of the spacer rings, Item 23, to the primary lid, Item 2 and to the cask body, Item 10. c. The alignment marks on the shield plug, primary cover and cask body have been shown on the drawings. The marks are currently on the cask and are used when the alignment pins are damaged. Attachment B is a copy of the Cask Handling Procedure which has been revised to include the use of the alignment marks. 1

Note 1 has been revised to show the December 18, 1980 date for the use of ASTM A516 Gr. 70 steel to be consistent with the Certificate of Compliance. b. The dates in Notes 8 and 9 have been revised to be consistent with Note 1. B. SUPPORTING ANALYSIS The calculations to show the adequacy of fasteners, Item 19, constructed of SAE Gr. 5 steel are as follows: 1. Purpose : to show adequacy of SAE Gr.5 material for 1" diameter pins fastening ratchet binders to cask Item 19 on Dwg. C001-5-9122. 2.
