Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2)
Operating License No. OPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 Auxiliary and Fuel Handling Buildings Quarterly Decontamination Schedule In response to the NRC Letter dated May 7,1984, the following is the status of Auxiliary and Fuel Handling Buildings Decontamination for the Second Quarter of 1988. This update addresses only those areas where Technical Specification surveillances were not being perforrned due to ALARA considerations.
Seal Injection Cubicle ( AX004)
AL ARA exemption is currently being taken for Technical Specificadon Surveillance 4210-SUR-3244.01 (4301-M8), "Containment Integr.ity Verification."
The heavily encrusted floor area has been scabbled.
Scaffolding and debris removal are completed and follow-up scabbling is also completed.
In addition, a concrete shield slab was poured on the cubicle floor during the First Quarter of 1986. Floor slope correction of the poured concrete shield slab was completed during the Secord Quarter and the concrete shield slab was painted with Keeler and Long epoxy coating materials. Steel stield plates and lead blankets were also installed over the area of the floor immediately around the floor drain. General area dose rates in the cubicle have been substantially reduced ard now range from 100 rnR/hr - 250 rrR/hr.
Additionally, Kelly Vac flushing has reduced smearable surf ace contamination levels in the cubicle from an approximate average of 1,550K dpm to an average of 45CK dpm.
