July 22, 1988 ORDER

-On July 21, 1988, NECNP filed a Motion For Extension Of Discovery Schedule. Noting that the Board had ruled during the course of a telephone conference on June 23, 1988 that discovery upon the coaxial cable matter must be completed by August 15, 1988 (Tr. 1181), NECNP requests an extension of time within which to conduct depositions during the week of August 15. NECNP's counsel states she' seeks this extension because of long-standing vacation plans for the week of August 9 through -

15. We are advised by NECNP that Applicants oppose the requested extension -- we are not advised what is the Staff's position.

The motion is denied. We were not timely advised during the June 23 conference call that NECNP's counsel had long-standing vacation plans. Had we been so advised at that time, the Board could have heard 8807290023 880722 PDR ADOCK 05000443 G PDR p]/

- Et '?? $ L -f any objections, considered whether to extend the completion date, and ruled immediately. This coaxial cable case must proceed expeditiously.

The_ Board made it very clear that absent an accident or a horrendous

., . occurrence _,,.;it would hold firmly to the August 15 completion-date (Tr.

1185).

It is so ORDERED.
