Subject:
Comments on Proposed Rule Part 34 I have a concern with Section 34.33 dealing with the radiographer alarm dosimeter setpoint of 500 MR/hr.
Radiography is performed at operating Nuclear Power Plants.
These operating plants have areas that contain radiation greater than 500 MR/hr. radiation field. The 500 MR/hr. setpoint would not be adequate.
Suggestion:
the background radiation at operating nuclear facilities be determined at the location to be radiographed and that this alarm dosimeter have a setpoint to be adjusted to read 100 to 200 MR/hr. above background.
Sincerely, Harry W. Kerc Senior Reactor Engineer Materials and Processes Section, DRS Region I cc:
Dr. Donald 0. Nellis, NL/S Stewart Ebneter, RI s
