Gentlemen:

This refers to your letters dated December 22, 1987 and February 10, 1988, which responded to our letter dated November 24, 1987, and tio telephone' l conversations with you on January 27. and April 6,1988.

As we stated in the April 6,1988 telecon, with some minor SOP-600 procedure modifications which you agreed to make, your responses have satisfactorily addressed our concerns. The modifications are attached.

We have reviewed the severityil vel assigned the violation in the attachment to our November 24, 1987 letter. Based uport the additional information s

obtained subsequent to the inspection, @have revised the Severity Level to "V" instead of "IV." As we have previously informed you, we will continue to expect that your approved procedures will be followed when conducting activities associated with your NRC license.

ATTACHMENT

1. Modify the last paragraph of S0P 600, Section A to read:

These rules apply to students in the laboratory courses, such as NE 304 and 308, as well as other persons (including reactor staff) who are irradiating samples, counting irradiated samples, or otherwise working with radioactive material.

2. Modify S0P 600, Section B, Item 4 to read:

Eating, drinking, or smoking are prohibited in the reactor bay, the counting rooms, and any other areas posted as prohibiting such activities.

3. Modify S0P 600 Section B, Item 15 to read:

All personnel who have worked with radioactive materials shall always use the frisker station to check for possible contamination prior to exiting the bay area and prior to eating, drinking, or smoking.
