Dear Ms. Wright:
In response to your request of.T".ly 5, 1988, we are pleased to offer the following information:
- 1. The largest sealed light source produced by Surelite, Ltd.
contained 100 curies maximum.
This type of source has been produced as a prototype only for aircraft runway applica-tions.
It could eventually become a standard production item if we were to be successful in obtaining a runway contract.
- 2. The tubular type sealed source is the most pcpular and norm-ally contains a maximum of 25 curies each.
When used as an array of several sources they typically edntain 5 to 6 curies each.
- 3. Setting the limit at 30,000 curies per shipment would affect our ability to compete favorably against our British compe-tition who, for many years, has been allowed to import tritium in 50,000 Ci, containers.
Several hundreds of dollars would be saved as well as precious delivery time if we were able to ship one (1) 50,000 Ci. container per month instead of two (2) 25,000 Ci. containers.
In view of the increased interest in tritium-lit runway and helipad landing systems, the need for larger shipments of tritium gas is becoming more and more necessary.
Considering the aforementioned, we respectfully ask that our initial request for 50,000 Ci. shipments of tritium be honored as stipulated in our letter of May 21, 1988.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding on this matter.
Very truly yours, h
