Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-412, License No. NPF-73 Chemical Injection Pumps, 2QSS-P-24A, 24B Gentlemen:
Our
- supplier, Crane-Demeny
- Compcny, is no longer accepting new orders for the Chemical Injection pumps Model 1549 but the product line would be available frem another
- vendor, Gorman Rupp, Inc.,
without the "N" stamp certification.
Our Engineering Department has reviewed the design specifications, materials, seismic qualifications and manufacturing tolerances between the installed pumps and the parts to be procured
.and found that they are no different with the exception that the "N"
stamp will no longer be available on these components although the parts will be manufactured to mil-spec requirement.
Replacement parts will be procured to meet all the ASME Section III requirements, including all appropriate Quality Assurance requirements in NCA of Section III, with the exception of the "N" stamp.
The Duquesne Light Company vendor surveillance program will assure quality assurance requirements will comply with 10 CFR Part 50 Appendix B
and as provided in the
- FSAR, the equipment will be qualified for service and will meet the requirements of IEEE 323-1974 and IEEE 344-1975.
l Surveillance Requirements to periodically demonstrate operability will be in accordance with the Inservice Testing Program.
In
- addition, we are enlisting an independent third party professional engineer to provide an information report that includes l
the same information required on "ASME Data Report Form NPV-1" except l
for the-certificate of Shop Inspection and that portion of the certificate of compljance associated with the "N" stamp.

Docket No. 50-412, License No. NPF-73 Page 2-This request to deviate from original design specifications is similar to the Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 1 Exemption Request documented in References 1 and 2 and granted in Reference 3.
On this
- basis, we conclude that the chemical Injection Pumps would be capable of performing their intended safety function under all accidents requiring their operation.
