i Dear Mr. Butler.
This letter describes a change in the storage location of the forcible entry tools utilized by the fire brigade from that described in reference (2), response to staff position PF-48(g), page 26.
The tools are utilized by the fire brigade for accessing secured areas to effect fire fighting measures.
The new location meets the NRC guidance in reference 1 that such equipment be made readily available to the fire brigade.
j NRC staff position PP-48 (reference 1) requested that the j
forcible entry tools be located in each hose cart and hose house.
An i
exception to this guidance was requested in reference 2 due to concerns that the availability of forcible entry tools on site may present a potential internal security problem.
A storage location at the guard structure under the control of security personnel was j
proposed.
By reference 3, the NRC approved this request.

Butler July 14, 1988 Page 2 To improve the accessibility of this equipment for use by the fire brigade, additional forcible entry tools are on order and will be located in the fire brigade cages on elevations 116 and 165 in the Turbine Building.
These cages are locked and-under the control of the fire brigade.
This change was approved by the station Security Manager and the cite Fire Marshall.
For the present, the forcible entry tools in the guard structure will be retained for use by the security force.
Considering the distance of tne guard structure from the safety related areas of the plant, the new locations enhance accessibility to this equipment and the fire fighting capability of the brigade, while providing appropriate control to prevent their unauthorized use.
