MONITORING TEAM VISIT TO WEST VALLEY 1
We recently received the Region I Monitoring Team Report on the preoperational assesszent of the West Valley Demonstration Project, conducted during the week of January 4,1988. Your staff is to be commended for the organization and preplanning of the team, its effective monitoring activities at the site, and its excellent report.
In particular, the efforts of Jerry Roth as leader of the team are recognized and appreciated.
We hcve forwarded the Tean's report to the Department of Energy (DOE) along with a request that the DOE officially infom us how they plan to address the Monitoring Team's four most important recomendations.

provides an additional measure of insurance that the Supernatant Treatment System can be operated without danger to the public, and we consider this i
effort to have made an important contribution to the fulfillment of the NRC's oversight responsibilities at West Valley.
