1.0 DESCRIPTION
OF QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM FOR TYPE "B"
OUALITY SHIPMENTS OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL:
1.1 ORGANIZATION
1.1.1 SAMSON INSPECTION & TECHNICAL SERVICES, INC.
pursuant to 10-CFR 71.12 and 10-CPR 71.51, sub-paragraph (a) is responsible for a Quality Assurance Program for Type "B" quality shipments and transportation of radioactive material.
Fab-rication and design of Type "B"
packages are not included.
1.1.2 The organization structure in Part I of the Radia-tion Safety Manual is applicable.

The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), is respon-sible for administration of the program, training of personnel, procurement of manu-facturer's certifications, maintaining pack-aging and shipping documents, retention of l
records and program audits.
b.
Radiographers are responsible for handling, storage, shipping and transporting radioactive packages in accordance with the procedures in Part II of the Radiation Safety Manual; and they are responsible for inspecting, surveying, and maintenance reports in accordance with the procedures in Part II of the Radiation Safety Manual.
1.2 OUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM:
1.2.1 Radiographere are trained in their responsibilities above according to Part I of the Radiation Safety Manual.
r 1.2.2 The Quality Assurance Program will be viable, re-quiring management approval, and the program encompasses specific requirements stated in the package approval for use, and general radiation safety and shipping requirements.

OF OUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM POR TYPE "B" QUALITY SilIPMENTS OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL:
1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM:
1.2.3 and maintained on all N.R.C. Type '- B " packages manufactured and procured after January 1, 1979.
t 1.3 DOCUMENT CONTROL:
1.3.1 Packaging, shipping, inspection and handling instruc-tions from the manufacturers shall be maintained for each model Type "B"
package.
P 1.3.2 The Radiation Safety Of ficer shall insure that the shipment and transnortation of Type "B"
packages is conducted in accordance with the above documents.
1.4 HANDLING, SilI PPI NG, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE:
1.4.1 Radiography personnel will handle, ship, transport 1
and store radioactive packages in accordance with the procedures in Part II of the Radiation Safety Manual.
1.4.2 Radiography personnel will determine the completeness of package inspections and presence of manufacturer's certificates before shipment.
l 1.5 INSPECTION, SURVEYS AND MAINTENANCE REPORTS:
1.5.1 Inspection, surveys and maintenance reports on l

packages will be made in accordance with l

1.6.3 Equipment and package procedures and instructions are maintained by the Radiation Safety Officer.
1.7 AUDITS
f 1.7.1 Quarterly audits of the entire Radiation Safety l
Program are performed in accordance with Part I of the Radiation Safety Manual.
1.7.2 The quarterly audits include the necessary checks on the Quality Assurance Program as outlined in Part I of the Radiation Safety Manual.
1.7.3 Any deficiencies revealed by the audits are corrected in accordan.:e with Part I of the Radiation Safety Manual.
1.8 AUDIT RECORDS:
1.8.1 Records of quarterly audit results will be main-tained by SM1 SON INSPECTION & TECHNICAL SERVICES, INC. for a period of two (2) years from date of audit.
