l Based on the inspection conducted on October 11, 1978, it appears that certain of your activities were in noncompliance with NRC requirements,

License Item No. 8.A of Byproduct Material License No. 22-15451-01 ,

specifies a maximum amount of 10 microcuries which may be possessed l at any one time for phosphorous 32.

Contrary to this specification, at the time of this inspection, records showed that on two occasions, February 23, 1977 and January 17, 1978, phosphorous 32 exceeded the possession limit in that 20 and 50 micro-

This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. C. T. Oberg of this office on October 11, 1978, of activities at the Mayo High School ,

authorized by NRC Byproduct Material License No. 22-15451-01 and j to the discussion of our findings with Mr. Mahlon Wissink at the conclusion of the inspection.

The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to radiation safety and to compli-ance with the Commission's rules and regulations and with the conditions of your license. The inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observations, independent measurements, and interviews with personnel.

During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in noncompliance with NRC requirements, as described in the enclosed Appendix A.

This notice is sent to you pursuant to the provisions of Section 2.201 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations. Section 2.201 requires you to submit to this office within twenty days of your receipt of this notice a written statement or explanation in reply, including for each item of noncompliance: (1) corrective action taken and the results achieved; (2) corrective action to be taken to avoid further non-compliance; and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved.
