Dear Sir:

, Enclosed for your information is a statement given by Robert A. Gasser, member of the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders dealing with the pro-posed 550' saltwater coolin1 tower at the Forked River Nuclear Generating S tati ori . The Jersey Centrai Power and Light Company has requested a variance from the state air quality er'ission standards to allow them to discharge 282 pounds of salt per hour from '.he cooling tower. The allowable emission rate is 30 pounds of particulates per hour. The Bureau of Air Pollution Control has concluded a public hearing on the variance request and must now make a decision on whether or not to allow the variance.

If you or a member of your staff have any questions regarding the pro-posed cooling tower, please do not hesitate to contact me or Mr. Alan Avery of my staff.

Very truly you Saw f574Y/(
