.. .r DUQUESNE LIGHT COMPANY , Nuclear Group Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2 RESPONSE TO NRC GENERIC LETTER 88-03 Generic Letter 88-03 requests a confirmation of the implementation of items from IE Bulletin 85-01; specifically:

1. Maintain procedures to monitor fluid conditions within the AFW system each shift during times when the system is required to be operable. This monitoring should ensure that fluid temperature at the AFW pump discharge is maintained at about ambient levels.

Response

Both BVPS-1 and 2 use operating logs to monitor this concern on an eight-hour shift basis.

2. Maintain procedures for recognizing steam binding and for restoring the AFW system to operable status, should steam binding occur.

Response

Both BVPS-1 and 2 have operating procedures that recognize steam binding and provide the capability for restoring the AFW system to operating status should steam binding occur. As requested, it is estimated that approximately ten hours were spent reviewing, preparing, and submitting this response. Note, the previous required actions were completed to meet IE Bulletin 85-01 concerns.}}
