UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 July 10, 2020 Mr. Larry Wetzel, Chairman Nuclear Criticality Safety Consensus Committee 555 North Kensington Avenue La Grange Park, IL, 60526 llwetzel@bwxt.com
SUBJECT:
LETTER NOMINATING MR. JEREMY MUNSON TO THE AMERICAN NUCLEAR SOCIETY STANDARD SUBCOMMITTEE ANS-8 AND WORKING GROUPS ANS-8.1 AND ANS-8.24.
Dear Mr. Wetzel:
I would like to nominate Mr. Jeremy Munson as the authorized U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) representative to the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Subcommittee ANS-8, Fissionable Material Outside Reactors Subcommittee, and working groups for ANS-8.1, Nuclear Criticality Safety in Operations with Fissile Material Outside Reactors and ANS-8.24, Validation of Neutron Transport Methods for Nuclear Criticality Safety Calculations. Mr. Munson is a Nuclear Process Engineer and is responsible for the licensing and inspection of NRC-regulated fuel cycle facilities. Mr. Munson is replacing Mr. Tom Marenchin on the ANS-8 Subcommittee and the working group for ANS-8.1, and Dr. Christopher Tripp on the working group for ANS-8.24. Both Mr. Marenchin and Dr. Tripp have resigned from their position at the NRC.
In accordance with the Office of Management and Budget Circular No. A-119, "Federal Participation in the Development and Use of Voluntary Consensus Standards and in Conformity Assessment Activities," January 26, 2016, the participation on a committee of an NRC-authorized representative does not connote agency agreement with, or endorsement of, decisions reached by the committee, or of standards approved and published as a result of the committees efforts. Agency representatives participating on consensus standards developing groups will, to the extent possible, ascertain the views of the agency on matters of interest and will express views that are consistent with established agency views.
However, the NRCs endorsement of these standards, if desired by the NRC, would be part of a separate activity, such as incorporation by reference into rulemaking or endorsement in an NRC regulatory guide.
Correspondence should be addressed to:
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region II ATTN: Mr. Jeremy Munson Marquis One Tower 245 Peachtree Center Avenue NE, Suite 1200 Atlanta, GA, 30303 Telephone: (404) 997-4732 E-mail: Jeremy.Munson@nrc.gov
L. Wetzel 2
Thank you very much for providing NRC with the opportunity to participate in the work of your committees.
Sincerely,
/RA/
