Zion Nuclear Power Station Units 1 and 2 Fire Protection NRC Docket Nos. 50-295 and 50-304

January 21, 1988 letter from F.G. Lentine to A.-Bert Davis Gentlemen:
The referenced letter addressed several fire protection issues of interest to both Region III and NRR.
Items 7 and 12 were related to NRR concerns. This transmittal supplies the current status of these two items.
Item 7 addressed the issue of inclusion of Auxiliary Building ventilation fans as safe shutdwn equipment. Comenonwealth Edison has agreed to consider the equipment accordingly, however the engineering review is still in progress. The dates mentioned in the referenced letter are the proposed completion dates.
Item 12 addressed the issue of the need for the installation of additional fire detectors. Commonwealth Edison has agreed to install additional fire detectors in the following locations:
1.
above the component Cooling Water Pump power feed cable trays in accordance with the longitudinal spacing requirements of NFPA 72E, and 2.
in the Aux. Electric Rooms for both units, fire areas 5.6A-1 and 5.6A-2 (i.e. areas protected by the roll up doors).
The expected completion date for No. I above is December, 1988. The completion dates for No. 2 are Fall, 1988 for Unit 2 and Summer, 1989 for Unit 1.
