Dear tir. Chapman:
Enclosed is the report on the inspection conducted at Circleville Metal Works (CMW), the fabricator of the LHRL-120 spent fuel transportation cask. During the inspection, we reviewed the fabrication controls implemented at CMW and found CMW implementing an adequate quality assurance (QA) program in accordance with the specifications. We did identify three nonconformances and made several observations. These items, we feel, are minor noni:onformances and will not affect the ultimate safety of the cask. It should be noted that CMW was respon-sive to our observations and concerns and initiated corrective action promptly.
The items noted in the report were reviewed by the inspectors and informally closed during the inspection. We are awaiting CMW's formal response to the inspection report and the items of nonconformance. Because of the corrective action taken by CMW during the inspection we anticipate that the items of non-comformance will be closed upon receipt of CMW's response.
