305 Lop n Street Post Office Box 410 i circleville, Ohio 43113 Gentlemen: j This letter addresses the inspection of your facility at Circleville, Ohio l conducted by Ms. C. M. Abbate and Mr. C. Czajkowski of this office on January 11-14, 1988, and the discussions of their fir. dings with you and Other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
This inspection was performed at the request of the Australian Department of i Transport to provide an independent verification of the fabrication of the i LHRL-120 spent fuel transportation cask. Areas examined during the NRC inspec- l tion anti our findings are discussed in the enclosed report. This inspection consisted of ar. examination of procedure 3 and representative records, inter-views with personnel, and observations by the inspectors.
During the inspection it was found that the implerantation of your QA program failed to meet certain requirements. Those items identified include two instances of inadequate material control and inadequate control of temperature gauges used in the weld rod ovens and nondestructive testing. Re specific find ngs and referencas to the pertinent requirements are identified in the enclosures to this letter.
fr.roughout the inspection, CMW was responsive and isnplemented corrective action for items identified. Although the inspectors were able to informally review the corrective actions during the inspection, please provide us within 30 days from the date of this letter a written statement containing:
(1) a description of steps that have been or will be taken to correct these items; (2) a description of steps that have been or will be taken to prevent recurrence; and (3) the ddtes your corrective actions and preventive measures were or will be completed. We will consider extending the response time if you can show good cause for us to do 50.
