July 21, 1997 Mr. Mark E. Weidler, Secretary Environment Department 1190 St. Francis Drive P.O. Box 26110 Santa Fe, NM 87502
Dear Mr. Weidler:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted the integrated Materials Performance Evaluation Program (IMPEP) review for the New Mexico program in your offices on July 14-18,1997. James L. Lynch, Regional State Agreements Officer, from Region Ill, Lisle, Illinois, was the team leader for the New Mexico review. The review team's recommendations were discussed with you and your staff on July 18,1997. The review team identified significant concerns in the performance indicator, " Response to incidents and Allegations." Based on the discussions held on Friday, July 18,1997, the State committed to immediately evaluate and respond to significant events reported by licensees.
